How do you choose the right qualification and course for your Yoga Teacher Training?
This is a big decision that will cost you money and time so you need to be sure you are choosing the right course that will give you the right credentials.
Yoga Alliance 200 hr/300 hr/500 hr Yoga Teacher Certification
Most South African, US, UK and European yoga teachers and studios are certified under the Yoga Alliance. www.yogaalliance.org
This is an American based organisation – the biggest in the world.
Unfortunately, to confuse matters other Yoga Alliances have sprung up including Yoga Alliance Int (India), Yoga Alliance (Aus) and some others. These organisations have no affiliation with the Yoga Alliance. See below for more details on what your credentialing means.
CHECK BEFORE YOU DO YOUR COURSE THAT THE STUDIO IS REGISTERED WITH THE YOGA ALLIANCE FOR THE COURSE THAT YOU ARE DOING ie if you are planning to do a 300hr/500 hr Training the studio MUST be registered with the YA for that level of course. If the studio is only registered for a 200 hr course your certification will not be valid.
Not All “Yoga Alliances” Are the Same
Since 1999, Yoga Alliance® has been the internationally recognized standards-setting organization for yoga.
“Yoga Alliance USA” = Yoga Alliance
“Yoga Alliance USA” is not our name. Rather it is simply a moniker that some other entities use to refer to us. Our organization should be referred to as Yoga Alliance and Yoga Alliance Registry.
Yoga Alliance is Not Affiliated with Other “Yoga Alliances”
Yoga Alliance and Yoga Alliance Registry are operated and maintained by Yoga Alliance staff in the U.S. Yoga Alliance is not affiliated or connected with any of the following entities listed on this page.
Yoga Alliance’s Purpose Spans Geographical Borders
Our credentials carry meaning outside of the U.S. – they represent the same qualification whether you’re in the U.S. or abroad. The Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT®) designation indicates that a teacher’s training and experience meet Yoga Alliance’s requirements.
Yoga Alliance Membership is Open to International Yogis
Currently, we have RYTs in more than 130 nations and territories. More than 18 percent of our 66,000 RYTs reside outside the U.S., while more than 29 percent of our 4,000 Registered Yoga Schools (RYS®s) are internationally located.
Yoga Alliance accepts applicants from all over the globe, and will continue to enhance our international offerings to members.
